Treat yourselves with a truly wonderful two days tour which will give you the opportunity to discover the Greek countryside but also to look deeper the Greek religion. It combines the ancient with the Christian religion and our tour guides and drivers will reveal to you all of their secrets. You will witness the transition from one of the most sacred places in the ancient times to one of the most sacred places today.

The chosen tour starts with a two hours’ drive thought the Greek countryside along fields, lakes and mountains. Not long before reaching Delphi we will drive through Arachova, a beautiful little town which is a ski resort but gives the impression that came from the past. Then in one of the slopes of mount Parnassus there is Delphi and the oracle. The oracle was a temple dedicated to god Apollo where people or even cities could consult the god about important decisions which the god was giving through his priestess.

The whole area around it was part of the sacred site and you will be able to see the treasuries, where the gifts were kept, the sacred spring called Castalia, the theater and the stadium where the games to honor the god Apollo were taking place. In the museum the statues and the treasures found in the site will make your visit more special. Among the great jewelry and the ritual items you will admire Inioxos, a beautiful statue of a young boy which details force us to respect its creator. After your meal we will head to Meteora.

The next day after spending the night at Kalambaka, the small town in the shadow of Meteora we will visit two monasteries. Meteora, is one the most important religious complexes in Greece and in the Balkan Peninsula. These amazing formations are 131 meters tall and they were formed 65 million years ago.  The monasteries surprise the visitors with their location as they are built on very steep rocks, and they are part of the rock now. Nowadays there are six monasteries open to the public that people can admire. More specifically the Monastery of Great Meteoron which is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. . It was erected in the mid-14th century and one building serves as the main museum for tourists. The Katholikon (main church), consecrated in honor of the Transfiguration of Jesus was erected in the middle of the 14th century. The Monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in the Meteora complex, and it was built in 1541 and embellished in 1548. A church, dedicated to All Saints was built in 1541/42 and decorated in 1548 while the exonarthex was decorated in 1566. The Monastery of Rousano was founded in the middle of the 16th century and decorated in 1560. Today it is a flourishing nunnery. The Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas, built in the 16th century, and there was one monk in residence in 2015.The Monastery of St. Stephen has a small church built in the 16th century and decorated in 1545. It rests on the plain rather than on a cliff and is easier for visitors to reach. The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is on top of the cliffs. It was built in 1475 and was remodeled in 1684. Our drivers and tour guides will reveal how unique the monasteries are in every aspect. They will explain how they started, and then, according to which one you will visit they will give you information about their history and construction. We can make the experience as sacramental as the place can be. Then after your meal we will drive back to Athens.

Allow us to offer you the possibility to make a stop at Thermopolis on our way back to Athens. Thermopolis is the battlefield where the Greeks faced the Persians and the 300 Spartan soldiers became legends.

The combination of the archaeology, the food and wine experiences, the swimming and the generally relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable tour. There was a high attention to detail. Our main tour guide was very enthusiastic and highly qualified. Excellent.
