Delphi – Meteora – Metsovo – Ioannina

Not long before reaching Delphi we will drive through Arachova, a beautiful little town which is a ski resort but gives the impression that came from the past. Then in one of the slopes of mount Parnassus there is Delphi and the oracle. The oracle was a temple dedicated to god Apollo where people could consult the god. The whole area around it was part of the sacred site and you will be able to see the treasuries, where the gifts were kept, the sacred spring called Castalia, the theater and the stadium where the games to honor the god Apollo were taking place. In the museum the statues and the treasures found in the site will make your visit more special. After your meal we will head to Meteora.

The next day after spending the night at Kalambaka, the small town in the shadow of Meteora we will visit two monasteries. Meteora, is one the most important religious complexes in Greece and in the Balkan Peninsula. The monasteries surprise the visitors with their location as they are built on very steep rocks, and they are part of the rock now. Nowadays there are six monasteries open to the public that people can admire. We can make the experience as sacramental as the place can be. Then we will drive to Metsovo where you can enjoy your lunch. 

Metsovo is a small, picturesque town among the mountains of Greece’s most significant mountain range, Pindos. It was established in the Ottoman period but it offered a lot to the country’s independence. After our stop to Metsovo we will drive to Ioannina where we will spent the night.

The next morning we will visit Ioannina which is a beautiful town famous for its lake and the little island that used to be the base of the ottoman pasha. You will be amazed by the beautiful castle and the ottoman buildings preserved from that period. From Ioannina we will also visit the cave with the stalactites and stalagmites. Last but not least is the visit to Dodona oracle, dedicated to Zeus, father of all men and gods that along with the one in Delphi were the most important oracles in the ancient world. In the site you will also admire the ancient theatre, with capacity of 18.000 people, that made it the biggest of its time. Then after your meal we will drive back to Athens.
